Conventional ultrasound machines produce a 2D cross section image but advances in ultrasound technology allow a sequence of 2D images to be digitally reconstructed to produce a 3D picture of your baby.

More recent advances allow the reconstruction to occur so fast that the baby can be seen moving in real time 3D.

Your hospital appointment will be sent in the post along with a dating scan appointment.

Following your anatomy scan at 20 to 22 weeks you will be followed up in between hospital visits by the surgery midwife.

During this time you will be able to explain your medical history, symptoms and raise any concerns that you might have.

We will also discuss with you whether any further diagnostic tests, such as scans or blood tests, are needed.
